A site driven by excellence and sustainability.

From the outset, the goal was clear: bring the station back to life while ensuring energy efficiency.

The reconstruction integrated modern eco-construction solutions capable of meeting thermal and regulatory requirements without betraying the original architecture.

The exterior walls, still standing after the fire, formed the base for the project. Inside, everything had to be rebuilt, opening the way for a responsible and innovative design.

Using 15 cm thick blocks combined with HL Mix infill, the teams rebuilt breathable, naturally insulating walls, easily adaptable to the irregular existing structure.

Technical challenges met with ingenuity.

Every heritage site brings its own challenges. Here, the complex wall geometry required precise adjustments.

The block thickness was adapted, and a plaster finish was added to meet public building (ERP) requirements.

Another constraint: speed of execution. Initially, sprayed lime-hemp insulation was considered, but hemp blocks saved valuable time.

Their installation, similar to conventional concrete blocks, simplified the craftsmen’s work and delivered a homogeneous and high-performing result.

This project was also an invaluable learning experience for the local teams.

A project that inspires and educates.

The story of this rehabilitation doesn’t end with completion. Its impact was so significant that a dedicated exhibition was held, showcasing the station’s evolution from 1862 to 2023.

Organised at Figeac’s Town Hall, the exhibition highlighted the architectural choices, technical innovations, and the dedication of everyone involved.
It proved that this station is more than a building — it is living heritage, reinventing itself while staying true to its roots.

Today, the new Figeac Station is much more than a renovated building. It symbolises an architecture that blends past and future, where tradition and innovation unite to create more sustainable, environmentally respectful spaces.

Hemp: a heritage
 and future ally.

This project shows that hemp blocks are not only an eco-friendly alternative but a high-performance solution for restoring historic buildings.

Providing natural thermal and moisture regulation and simplifying complex site work, they are a key material for preserving history while building the future.
