Hemp serving heritage.
In this project, 20 cm hemp blocks played a key role. Installed as an interior wall lining, they allow the old stone walls to breathe, reducing the risk of moisture while offering excellent thermal insulation.
« We chose our 20 cm hemp block, ideal for ensuring the wall's breathability while delivering effective thermal insulation.»
– David Ahlouche, Project Manager at IsoHemp.
The installation was tailored to the building’s specifics. An air cavity filled with HL Mix was added between the stone wall and the hemp lining to optimise insulation without affecting the natural properties of the existing materials.
Where high standards meet preservation.
Working on a listed monument comes with numerous technical and regulatory constraints.
RE 2020, which encourages the use of bio-based materials in heritage renovation, was a driving force behind the choice of hemp.
« Hemp combined with lime perfectly meets RE 2020 requirements and results in a negative carbon footprint. »
– David Ahlouche
The project involved close collaboration with the architects of the French Heritage Authority and the company h.Chevalier, specialised in historical monuments.
To ensure smooth and controlled execution, stonemasons and craftsmen were trained in installing hemp blocks, ensuring precise work respectful of the existing structure.
Adapting to preserve better.
As with all heritage renovations, adjustments had to be made along the way. Specific requests, such as integrating hemp lintels, required technical adaptations.
« In renovation, adjustments are always necessary. The key is to stay flexible and adapt to the project’s needs. »
This support didn’t end when the work was completed. IsoHemp continues to assist its partners, ensuring each solution works perfectly.
The goal is not only to complete a project but to build long-term partnerships around responsible renovation.
A flagship project for the future of historic buildings.
The renovation of the Petites Écuries of Versailles is more than a construction project.
It embodies a modern vision of heritage restoration, where tradition and innovation meet to preserve history while improving thermal and environmental comfort.
Thanks to the integration of IsoHemp hemp blocks, this historic site now benefits from high-performance insulation that respects the structure and meets the demands of sustainable construction.
