The owner, Mickaël Modave, an expert in building energy performance, wanted a home that combined thermal efficiency, low environmental impact, and locally sourced materials.

Hemp blocks were selected for their excellent thermal and acoustic insulation, as well as their ability to naturally regulate humidity and temperature. With rising energy prices, these bio-based solutions—once considered expensive—are becoming credible and competitive alternatives.

This project is part of a short supply chain and sustainable approach, using materials produced locally: the hemp blocks come from Fernelmont, the wood from regional forests, and the grass used for the roof is cultivated near Auvelais.

This method reduces the carbon footprint while also showcasing local resources and craftsmanship.
