Project to transform a barn into a single-family home in Haute-Savoie, France
This project, which has been ongoing for 3 years and is located in Haute-Savoie, involves the renovation of a typical molasse stone barn that was in ruins. Ultimately, the owners decided to keep only 2 of the old walls, and they rebuilt the roof and other walls in formwork, respecting the old building. They also recreated the openings, frames, and porches in cut stone.
All exterior walls, both new and old, are lined with IsoHemp blocks of 9 or 15 cm. Advised by their architect and having experienced the comfort of hemp construction themselves, they decided to carry out their project with this material. They also naturally wanted a material that allows the old walls to breathe. Hesitant between the formwork solution and the block, they ultimately chose the latter as it was simpler to implement for the contractor, given their very small team.
The owners are very pleased with the result and have already noticed the insulation provided by the hemp during the construction phase, with the finished rooms being temperate even without heating. All walls will be coated with PCS plaster.
